President Kim Il Sung with an unswerving conviction that the enemy armed to the teeth could be defeated only by dint of arms formed the DIU on October 17, Juche 15 (1926) and thus declared an over-all war against Japanese and other imperialisms.

The formation of the DIU was a historic declaration heralding a new start of the Korean revolution and marked the glorious origin of Songun revolutionary cause.

The DIU was the first revolutionary vanguard organization of Korea which embodied President Kim Il Sung's Juche-based idea of attaching importance to arms.

Its formation was not a simple anti-imperialist organization. It was the first step for the historic cause of applying the Juche-oriented idea of giving priority to arms, the revolutionary theory on arms to practice and the initial stage of the preparations for building revolutionary armed ranks.

Along with the completion of the preparations for armed struggle which started from the DIU, the President set forth the line of armed struggle as the strategic line of the Korean revolution and founded the Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army in April 1932.

The socialist idea upheld by the DIU became the fundamental idea of the Juche-based Songun cause and its principle of independence, anti-imperialism and uninterrupted revolution is the basic principle which firmly guarantees the final victory of the revolution.

The traditions and exploits established under the banner of the DIU were a priceless wherewithal for propelling the successful advance of the Korean revolution at each stage.

The army and people of Korea are dynamically forging ahead along the one road for the Songun cause pioneered by the DIU, taking the revolutionary traditions established in Mt. Paektu as the eternal life-line, the only blood vessel of the Korean revolution.
