Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- An emergency meeting of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) was held at the Japanese educational hall in Tokyo on October 16 to denounce the Japanese authorities for extending unwarranted "sanctions" against the DPRK. Nam Sung U, vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, made a report at the meeting. He referred to the fact that the Japanese government took the intolerable action of extending its "sanctions" against the DPRK for the fourth time on October 10, swimming against the trend of the times and history. The Japanese authorities' "sanctions" are aimed at making the best use of the "fiction about threat from north Korea" for turning Japan into a military power and rendering it right-wing reactionary and tearing Chongryon and Koreans in Japan from the care of their homeland and making Chongryon defunct in the end, he noted. He strongly urged the Japanese authorities to face up to the trend of the times and properly understand the unbiased public opinion inside and outside Japan, immediately lift the "sanctions" and stop at once the politically-motivated brutal suppression of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan and their rights. Then solidarity speeches were made by Haruki Wada, secretary general of the National Association for the Promotion of Japan-DPRK Relations, Kiko Koizumi, secretary general of the Japanese Women's Society for Solidarity with the Korean Women, and Kenjo Kogawa, a Japanese lawyer. The floor was also taken by officials of Chongryon. A letter of protest to the Japanese government was adopted at the meeting. The meeting also decided to form a group of protesters with Koreans from all walks of life in Japan and stage protest actions against its Cabinet office. Present at the meeting were vice-chairmen of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, the chairman of the Central Audit Committee of Chongryon, chairmen of Chongryon headquarters in Kanto region, officials of different organizations under Chongryon and other Koreans in Japan. |
