Pyongyang, October 24 (KCNA) -- The autumn scenery of Mt. Chilbo, a noted mountain of Korea, is beyond description these days. The beautiful maples and fully ripened wild fruits there strike the visitors with admiration. It has been known as Hambuk Kumgang, which means Mt. Kumgang in North Hamgyong Province, for its prominent mountain and sea scenery from olden times and Chilbo, its name, means seven kinds of rare valuables. The ancestors called it by various names according to seasons. It was called "Kkotdongsan" (flowery mountain) in spring with all kinds of flowers in full bloom. It was called "Rokumsan" (wooded mountain) in summer, "Hongasan" (red mountain) in autumn with red maples and "Solbaeksan" (snow-covered mountain) in winter. Ecstatic, indeed, is the landscape of the mountain--thickly wooded mountain ridges, narrow and long valleys, mysterious peaks and rocks, crystal-clear streams in valleys, fresh water-falls and ponds, cliffs on the coast, wonderful rock islets in the sea and hot springs gushing out all the year round. Mt. Chilbo with such beautiful landscape is a pride and scenic spot of Korea. For the beautiful scenery of the mountain, the large-size Korean painting "Mt. Chilbo in Autumn" came into being as a world famous picture. In recent years, pavilions and sightseeing roads have been constructed in different places including Ogundae and various welfare service facilities arranged in their distinctive ways, turning the mountain into a wonderful tourist resort. |
