Pyongyang, October 31 (KCNA) -- A DPRK Red Cross meeting was held at the Chollima House of Culture on Oct. 29 and 30.
It was attended by members of the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society and Red Cross officials in Pyongyang and local areas.
Present there on invitation were members of the delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross working in the DPRK.
At the meeting Jang Jae On, chairman of the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society, made a report reviewing the work of its central committee.
The reporter referred to the successes made in the period under review and underscored the need for the Red Cross Society to intensify the activities for health and hygiene with main emphasis on fulfilling the humanitarian mission to contribute to the improvement of the living of the victims of various disasters, protect and promote the health of people.
The Red Cross Society will make positive efforts to solve the humanitarian issues by the efforts of the Koreans on the basis of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and develop the cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations of different countries.
Then, speeches were made.
The statute of the DPRK Red Cross Society was revised and a development strategy and orientations of the work in different fields till 2012 were discussed at the meeting.
The Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society arranged a reception on Oct. 30 in connection with the founding anniversary of the Red Cross Society and the Red Cross meeting.
