Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- The Emergency Measure Committee for Frustrating the Crackdown upon Participants in Candlelight Actions, Moves for Scrapping the June 15 Joint Declaration and the October 4 Declaration and the Plot to Fake up a Case for Suppressing the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration of south Korea on Oct. 29 made public a statement titled "We denounce the plot to fake up a case for suppressing the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) under the pretext of security."
The statement accused the security authorities of conducting a search and confiscation operation and call and investigation into the former officials of Hanchongryon, on charges that the 13th-term Hanchongryon spearheaded the struggle to remove the statue of MacArthur and a protest against Bush's trip to south Korea in 2005 at the "instruction of the north."
The then struggle was a joint struggle waged by the entire progressive camp 60 years after the U.S. forces' occupation of south Korea, the statement said, terming the police's charge groundless.
Recalling that the struggle against the U.S. president's junket to south Korea was also participated in by members of different progressive organizations in the world, the statement said that if the authorities' assertion was considered to be true, this would imply that they also participated in the protest at the "instruction of the north."
The recent suppression was aimed at labeling Hanchongryon an organization active at the "instruction of the north" in a bid to justify their crackdown upon the candlelight struggles participated in by the organization by branding them as anti-"government" actions staged by pro-north leftist forces, it stressed.
It declared that the organization bitterly denounced the security authorities for their plot to expand the case and would conduct a powerful struggle against the Lee Myung Bak regime's bid to bring back the era of fascist dictatorship.
