Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il together with servicepersons of the KPA watched a football match between Mangyongbong and Jebi teams of the KPA held in connection with the close of the 11th People's Sports Contest.
The Mangyongbong Team defeated the Jebi team 3:1 by successfully applying the Korean-style sporting method.
After watching the match, Kim Jong Il congratulated the footballers on their success in the match, expressing great satisfaction over a high level of the game played by them.
He said that the servicepersons of the KPA, standard-bearers and members of shock brigade in implementing the Songun politics, are a model in sporting activities, too, highly praising the KPA for satisfactorily performing its honorable mission as a pioneer and pace-setter in the era of Songun.
He noted that to develop sports is of very weighty importance not only in successfully pushing forward the revolutionary struggle and construction to augment the might of the country but in boosting the friendly relations with various countries of the world.
All the people are fully ready both for labor and national defence thanks to the successful realization of the work to popularize sports and make them part of their daily life in the DPRK and its sportspersons have registered good results in the international arena, fully demonstrating the honor of Juche Korea and the spirit of its people, he said, adding that this shining success is a striking demonstration of the validity and great vitality of the WPK's policy of sports.
He set forth important tasks which would serve as guidelines for rapidly developing the nation's sports, underscoring the need to put the sports technique on a higher level by rounding off the Korean-style sports technique, tactical system and method of training.
He was accompanied by commanding officers of the KPA including KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae, Ri Myong Su and Kim Myong Guk, Department Director of the WPK Central Committee Jang Song Thaek and leading officials of the WPK Central Committee including its First Vice Department Directors Ri Je Gang and Ri Jae Il.
