Pyongyang, November 3 (KCNA) -- The People's Solidarity for the Repeal of the "National Security Law" in south Korea on Oct. 29 issued statement titled "Stop at once retaliation against candlelight actions by NSL."
The statement accused the security authorities of making a far-fetched assertion that the struggle staged by the south Korean Federation of the University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) for the removal of the statue of MacArthur three years ago and the protest against the trip of the U.S. president to south Korea were "instructed by the north."
This is the extension of the retaliation perpetrated by the Lee Myung Bak regime, bereft of reason, against the candlelight actions and a clear expression of the suppression launched under the pretext of "security" to calm down the people's protest against the "policy for the richest who account for one percent of the population."
The statement assailed the Lee regime for frantically suppressing under the pretext of "security" the progressive camp including the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration, which stood in the van of the candlelight actions.
Recalling that the struggle for removing the statue and others were not conducted at the "instruction of the north" but a planned action staged according to the voluntary will of civic and public organizations of people of different circles and Hanchongryon was also involved in those actions, the statement continued:
The recent action taken by the authorities suggests that they will strictly deal with any movement for reunification by the NSL by linking the activities of Hanchongryon with "the assertion of the north" though the above-said actions were legally held in the past with the approval of the "Ministry of Unification."
We will join all the people who have shed sweat and blood for democracy, peace, reunification and the right to existence in this land in the struggle to frustrate the moves of the regime to revive dictatorship and crackdown upon them under the pretext of "security" and wage an all-people struggle to get the NSL, an evil law in the times and a law against democracy, reunification and people, repealed without fail, declared the statement.
