Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- A meeting of Koreans in Tokyo took place at the Educational Hall of Japan in Tokyo on November 8 to denounce the Japanese authorities' illegal and politically-motivated suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and the Association of Korean Workers in Commerce.
It was attended by Vice-Chairman of the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon Nam Sung U, officials of the Tokyo Metropolitan Headquarters of Chongryon and the Association of Korean Workers in Commerce in Tokyo Metropolis and other Koreans.
Pak Chang Gil, chairman of the headquarters, in his report accused the Japanese government of making a surprise attack upon the Korean Hall in Sinjuku, Tokyo and searching offices at various units and confiscating files on Oct. 29 by mobilizing riot police and police investigation officers of the Public Security Department of the National Police Agency.
Policemen charged that the issue of income tax which they claimed left unpaid by a member of the above-said association though it had already been settled one and a half years ago is "a violation of the law on taxation" and raided office rooms of branches of Chongryon and the Korean Democratic Women's Union in Japan and the Korean Youth League which had no linkage with the case before taking away documents from there, he stated, and continued:
The reckless search operation conducted by the Japanese police authorities was unpardonable politically-motivated crackdown on Chongryon and the above-said association and unprecedented fascist tyranny.
Recalling that upon holding the post of deputy chief cabinet secretary, the chief of the Police Agency under the former regime who had been hell-bent on the suppression of Chongryon, held a "meeting of ministries and agencies concerned with the headquarters of measures for the settlement of the abduction issue" on the same day at which he instructed to crack down upon Chongryon as part of new measures against the DPRK, he noted: This self-exposes that the recent search operation was illegal suppression of Chongryon perpetrated in a premeditated manner to attain a very sinister political aim.
The report was followed by speeches at the meeting.
A letter of protest to the Japanese government and the police agency were adopted at the meeting.
A group of protesters made up of representatives of people of different circles was formed there.
