Pyongyang, November 12 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Press Trade Union held a rally in Seoul on Nov. 9 to vow to call a general strike to check the Lee Myung Bak "government's" moves to put the media under its control, according to south Korean CBS.
Speakers at the rally accused the "government" of disclosing its undisguised attempt to put the media under its control as evidenced by its moves to hand over the public broadcasting services to big businesses and make a retrogressive revision of the advertising system of the broadcasting services, etc.
They called for actions to check the "government's" retrogressive revision of the "law on broadcasting" and force the manager of the Yonhap TV News to step down and protect the freedom and independence of media.
They declared that the above-said union would immediately launch a general strike if the "government" puts into force the law calling for infringing upon the autonomy of the public broadcasting services.
