Pyongyang, November 12 (KCNA) -- The U.S. secretary of Defense, addressing a recent meeting of the Carnegie International Peace Foundation, made reckless remarks that the U.S. would continue providing south Korea and Japan with nuclear umbrellas so that they might depend upon its nuclear deterrent to cope with the "nuclear threat from north Korea" and cried out for pushing forward a plan for the development and production of new type nuclear weapons.
Rodong Sinmun Wednesday observes in a signed commentary carried in this regard:
This is a revelation of a dangerous scenario of the U.S. to dominate the world with unchallenged nuclear edge and realize its aggressive strategy towards the DPRK through a preemptive nuclear attack on the latter in "contingency" on the Korean Peninsula.
The U.S. loudmouthed "nuclear threat" from the DPRK is a sheer fiction fabricated by it.
The nuclear issue surfaced on the Korean Peninsula entirely because of the military threat of the U.S. to the DPRK and the former's nuclear war moves.
As a matter of fact, it was thanks to the positive peace-loving efforts on the part of the DPRK that a war was averted in Korea even under such grave situation.
The measure taken by the DPRK to bolster the self-reliant defence capability is of peaceful nature in every respect and, accordingly, this does not pose any threat to anyone.
The commitment "to provide nuclear umbrellas" to Japan and south Korea reiterated by the U.S. bellicose forces is, in essence, little short of disclosing the U.S. scenario to make a preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK according to their aggressive strategy towards it.
The above-said commitment made by them under the pretext of the "nuclear threat" from the DPRK is nothing but a veiled slogan calling for a nuclear war against it under such pretence.
There are growing voices in the world demanding the elimination of the nuclear weapons and the U.S. halt to its scheme to provoke a nuclear war, in particular. Under this situation the U.S. imperialists are making desperate efforts to justify their criminal nuclear policy and nuclear war scenario under the pretext of the non-existent "nuclear threat" from the DPRK.
The escalated moves of the U.S. bellicose forces to provoke a nuclear war against the DPRK would only compel it to strengthen its military counter-measures for self-defence and make the prospect of settling the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula dimmer.
The denuclearization and the guarantee of peace on the peninsula depend on the U.S. attitude.
It is the invariable stand and principle of action of the DPRK to react to confrontation with confrontation and respond to dialogue with dialogue.
The U.S. bellicose forces would be well advised to discard their criminal attempt to continue developing and producing new type nuclear weapons under the non-existent "nuclear threat" from the DPRK and do harm to it with a nuclear stick.
