Pyongyang, November 14 (KCNA) -- The increasing danger of a new Cold War is destabilizing the world situation and throwing a grave obstacle in the way of building an independent and peaceful new world desired by humankind, says Rodong Sinmun Friday in a signed article.
Humankind has been embroiled in a new war called the "war on terrorism" since the outset of the 21st century, the article notes, and goes on:
The "war on terrorism" is a joint military operation launched by the U.S. keen to realize its ambition to put the world under its domination and those countries seeking to expand the sphere of domination, taking advantage of the said war. This has become a typical mode of war of aggression in the new century.
The new century witnessed the unbroken occurrence of wars of aggression and the whole world, to say nothing of Afghanistan and the Middle East, has been embroiled in them to suffer a lot.
Unprecedented disputes and conflicts between countries and nations have been escalated and the imperialists' adventurous military actions aimed at establishing the sphere of domination over the world openly perpetrated against the backdrop of the trend of the international situation that changed after the end of the Cold War.
The U.S. strategy is to bring those countries which were under the influence of the former Soviet Union to its side and put them under its control.
It is the U.S. strategic scenario to tighten the siege to Eurasia in a bid to put this region under its complete control. Russia and China are its primary targets. To realize this strategy the U.S. conducted active military operations to seize those countries situated on the outskirts of the Eurasian region and the regions of strategic importance in a coordinated operation with other Western forces. This has rendered the situation in Middle East, Central Asia and Northeast Asia extremely tense and complicated.
The expansion of NATO toward east is part of such moves.
The triangular military alliance among the U.S., Japan and south Korea, the military bloc of NATO version in Asia, is now in the making in Northeast Asia. Consequently, Asia has become a hotspot in which the tense situation has not been defused but has festered and the danger of war increased since the demise of the Cold War.
The fierce arms race on the international arena is an indication of the growing danger of a new Cold War.
The "war on terrorism" for aggression perpetrated by the imperialists is nothing but a basic lever for sparking off a Cold War and infringing upon the sovereignty of other countries in the new century.
The Korean Peninsula is the region fraught with the greatest danger of the new Cold War in the 21st century.
The Korean people will increase the national defence capacity in every way under the uplifted banner of Songun to defend the sovereignty and peace and thus contribute to averting a new war on the Korean Peninsula and ensuring peace in Asia and the rest of the world, the article concludes.
