Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- U.S. Defense Secretary Gates at a recent meeting held in Washington underlined the need to resume the nuclear test, blustering that the U.S. arsenal dating back to the period of the Cold War should be modernized and the U.S. would be able to keep its defence capability on a high level only through nuclear tests.
In the meantime, the U.S. said no to resolutions on nuclear weapons when they were put to votes at the meeting on disarmament and international security of the First Committee of the 63rd UN General Assembly.
Commenting on this, Rodong Sinmun Monday says:
This glaringly reveals the arrogance of the U.S. as a nuclear war maniac.
The U.S. has gone so impudent as to describe the cutdown of a small number of nuclear weapons as a crucial and bold decision of nuclear disarmament. This is, however, nothing but sheer nonsense.
The U.S. talks a lot about "nuclear disarmament" but, in actuality, it is stepping up the modernization of nuclear weapons, dead-set against disarmament.
Recently U.S. Congress adopted a resolution on spending 5 million U.S. dollars for an independent study of possible space-based missile defenses for the purpose of reviving the "Star Wars" project. The U.S. bellicose forces are contemplating setting up a new operational command for a nuclear war before long. There emerges in the U.S. even a new nuclear doctrine simulating "a victory in a nuclear war" at a time when it defined future wars as nuclear wars.
No one can vouch that the U.S. would not put into practice the strategy for a preemptive nuclear attack as it declared it as its policy to the world.
Now that the U.S. bellicose forces are escalating the moves for a nuclear war, while talking about the settlement of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, it is entirely just for the DPRK to have taken measures to bolster its war deterrent to cope with them.
The U.S. reckless nuclear policy is bound to meet strong rebuff and denunciation from the international community as it is aimed at harassing the peace and security of the world and bringing a nuclear disaster to it.
