Pyongyang, November 19 (KCNA) -- The Korean nation bequeathed precious historical legacies in the field of medical science, too.
Among them are the medical books "Hyangyakjipsongbang", "Uibangryuchwi" and "Tonguibogam" which are called the three medical books of Koryo published in the 15th -17th centuries.
"Hyangyakjipsongbang" had been compiled in 85 volumes from 1431 with successes made in the Koryo medical development and folk treatment experiences gained till the early days of the 15th century. The book was published in 1433.
It gives more than 10,700 prescriptions and 1,476 acupuncture and moxibustion methods for the treatment of 959 kinds of diseases. And it introduces nearly 700 kinds of pharmaceuticals in Korea and their production places, characteristics and medicinal value, methods of collecting them and their directions and so on.
"Hyangyakjipsongbang" is a collection of medical science inherent to Korea and "Uibangryuchwi" is a medical book dealing with the overall achievements made in the development of oriental medicine.
"Uibangryuchwi" introduces in detail the symptoms and therapeutics of all diseases, divided into 95 diseases, with over 150 kinds of medical books published at home and abroad at that time as reference.
It systemizes the theories on the causes, pathologies and symptoms of all diseases and gives detailed treatment methods such as the medical pharmacotherapy, acupuncture and moxibustion and dietetics. Also it introduces prophylactics and folk remedies against diseases.
"Tonguibogam" (25 volumes) edited in 1610 consists of five chapters, which describes in a systematic way human anatomy and physiology and medical examination, prophylactic and treatment methods of various diseases.
The book was reprinted in neighboring countries several times.
For its scientific accuracy and theory, "Tonguibogam" not only developed the Koryo medicine onto a higher phase but also made a great contribution to the development of the world medicine.
