Pyongyang, November 19 (KCNA) -- A national memorial service for revolutionary fighter Ryu Kyong Su was held at the Central Youth Hall Wednesday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death.
Present at the service were Kim Yong Nam, Kim Yong Chun and other senior party, army and state officials, officials of party, armed forces and power organs, social organizations, ministries and national institutions, servicepersons of the Korean People's Army, members of bereaved families of revolutionary martyrs and working people in Pyongyang.
Ryu was born into a poor peasant's family in Sinhung County, South Hamgyong Province on Sept. 9, Juche 4 (1915). He came to have working-class awareness gradually, being subject to all sorts of humiliation and maltreatment as a farmhand at a landlord's in an alien land since his boyhood.
After joining the anti-Japanese revolutionary ranks with arms in his hand true to the line of the armed struggle advanced by President Kim Il Sung, Ryu performed shining feats in many battles and, in this course, grew up to be a competent commanding officer under the care of the President and contributed to achieving the historic cause of national liberation.
In the period of building a new country after its liberation he performed distinguished feats in the work for the party founding and the building of regular revolutionary armed forces. During the Fatherland Liberation War he greatly contributed to the victory of the war, holding such important posts as divisional commander and army corps commander.
In the post-war period, too, he rendered devoted services for the strengthening of the KPA into invincible revolutionary armed forces devotedly defending the party and the leader and upholding the revolutionary cause of Juche with arms.
KPA Vice Marshal Kim Il Chol, member of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and minister of the People's Armed Forces, in a memorial address said that short as his life was it was the noble life of a revolutionary fighter of Juche type who dedicated his all to devotedly safeguarding the headquarters of the revolution and winning victory of the revolutionary cause.
He underscored the need for all the people to learn from the example of loyalty to the leader set by the anti-Japanese revolutionary forerunners so as to cherish the spirit of devotedly defending the leader as the most important ideological and moral treasure of revolution and safeguard General Secretary Kim Jong Il politically and ideologically and at the cost of their lives and become genuine Songun revolutionary comrades and ardent fighters sharing the idea, intention and destiny with the leader.
