Pyongyang, November 29 (KCNA) -- The Japanese police authorities searched offices of the Federation of Korean Workers in Commerce in Japan and the Tokyo Metropolitan Association of Korean Workers in Commerce in Japan under the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) housed in the Hall of Korean Workers in Commerce in Tokyo on November 27. After arresting So Yong Nam, former vice-chairman of the Tokyo Metropolitan Shinjuku Association of Korean Workers in Commerce in Japan, on the charge of "violation of the law on taxation" that morning, the security department of the Tokyo Police Agency conducted an illegal search operation against those offices, claiming that the above-said organizations were linked with him. Enraged at the police suppression, officials of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee and Tokyo Metropolis and other parts of Kanto area, officials of associations of workers in commerce and Korean workers in commerce angrily protested against the suppression, shouting slogans "We protest politically motivated suppression of Chongryon!" The Japanese police authorities stretched the tentacles of suppression even to the Tokyo Metropolitan Association of Korean Workers in Commerce in Japan and the Federation of Korean Workers in Commerce in Japan, a central organization of Chongryon, in the wake of the search for several places including the Tokyo Metropolitan Shinjuku Association of Korean Workers in Commerce in Japan on the charge of "violation of the law on taxation" on October 29. This is an unpardonable politically motivated crackdown upon all Chongryon organizations and a base move to threaten Korean workers in commerce in Japan in a bid to financially suffocate Chongryon. |
