Pyongyang, December 24 (KCNA) -- A candlelight action against Lee Myung Bak was launched in Seoul on Dec. 21 on the theme of "Indefinite challenge" under the sponsorship of the Action Group to Prevent Lee Myung Bak from Enacting Evil Laws which are aimed at destroying the people's livelihood and democracy. The action group is made up of members of civic and public organizations and students. Attending the action were members of civic and public organizations and political parties, including the Solidarity for Progress, the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the Federation of Peasants Associations and the Democratic Labour Party, and citizens and students from Seoul, Chongju and many other areas, over 4,000 in all. There was a rally at which indignation speeches were made. Speakers called for checking the budget bill for 2009 which was railroaded by the "Grand National Party" and the Lee Myung Bak's evil laws with the strength of indefinite challenge. This challenge will last until Lee Myung Bak leaves "Chongwadae," they declared. After the rally the participants marched towards the "National Assembly" building in Youido till sunset. In a resolution they declared a people's resistance movement against Lee Myung Bak's dictatorship and expressed the determination to wage a vigorous struggle to check Lee's evil laws and GNP's monopoly at the NA. They stated that in the coming days they would hold such events as a meeting to vow the struggle against the passage of the "motion calling for ratification of south Korea-U.S. FTA" and the evil laws, an emergency action before the NA, relay-style press conferences and an "indefinite challenge at the end of the year". On Dec. 20, members of over 20 civic and public and student organizations and political parties, including the Teachers' Union (Jongyojo), the Meeting of School Youth and Children and the Democratic Labour Party, and citizens, more than 1,500 all told staged a candlelight rally outside the building of the Seoul City Education Office in demand of reinstatement of the unreasonably discharged teachers of Jongyojo and repeal of the puppet government's wrong education policy. |
