Japan's Solicitation Diplomacy Ridiculed

Pyongyang, December 24 (KCNA) -- It is ridiculous of Japan to busy itself peddling the "abduction issue" as the main thrust of its diplomacy, pushing aside all its pending problems to settle. After refusing to fulfill its commitment under the October 3 agreement and laying a hurdle in the way of the six-party talks, Japan is going hectic with diplomacy over the "abduction issue" in a bid to achieve its sinister aim. The Aso Cabinet is making sheep's eyes at the Obama Administration expected to emerge soon, in anticipation of "cooperation" from it over the above-said issue. In the past Japan was so ridiculous as to visit this or that country to solicit "cooperation" and "support", insisting that north Korea should not be de-listed as "a state sponsor of terrorism" unless the "abduction issue is settled". But this diplomacy got it nowhere. Wretched is the plight of the Japanese politicians who are left with no option but to cling to such solicitation diplomacy over the "abduction issue" which no one sympathizes with. They would be well advised to properly understand the international community's reaction to it and their own difficult position if they have even an iota of reason. Those countries concerned have regarded Japan as a trouble maker as it raised the "abduction issue" irrelevant to the agenda of the talks, deliberately creating difficulties in their way. As Japan refused to honor its commitments under the agreement reached at the talks, other countries were chosen to participate in the undertaking to make economic compensation in place of that country. Japan thus suffered again the disgrace as a political pigmy in the eyes of the world. It is the outmoded way of thinking to try to settle anything by depending on others, far away from the universally accepted conception and understanding of the international community as regards a certain issue. Japan seems to forget the truth that this way of thinking no longer works at present. It is the public opinion that Japan lags behind, failing to keep pace with other countries in Northeast Asia in handling important matters in the region. The situation is bound to develop as required by the international justice and the developing reality regardless of whether Japan likes or not. Japan will gain nothing by using "the abduction issue" as a playing card at present. Japan is sadly mistaken if it calculates it can prevent the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula from finding its solution through hectic diplomacy over the "nuclear issue" and, furthermore, put spurs to the moves to convert Japan into a military giant under this pretext. Japan would be well advised not to peddle the outdated "abduction issue" but put under control its mayhem characterized by a scramble for power and properly repent of the hideous human rights abuses committed against the Korean people and make reparation for them, to begin with. |
