On Dec. 24 Kim Jong Il visited Kangson, the birthplace of the Chollima movement, and lit a torch to bring about a new great surge to be recorded as another landmark event in the history of the country.

They in the letter renewed their firm determination to take the lead in the on-going all-out charge and demonstrate the spirit of Chollima, the mettle of the workers in Kangson once again. They ardently challenged all other working people throughout the country to a high-pitched drive for effecting a great upswing in wholehearted response to the call of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The WPK set a gigantic target to fling open the gate of a great prosperous and powerful nation in 2012, the centenary of the birth of President Kim Il Sung, the letter noted, stressing that bringing about a great surge at present provides a shortcut to victory.

Noting that the DPRK has already occupied the position of a political, ideological and military power, the letter underscored the need to build an economic power.

It continued:

The present struggle to attain the high goal of an economic power is a deep-going struggle as crucial as the battle to defend the country from the imperialist aggression.

Four years are left till 2012.

Chollima Korea emerged a socialist state by bringing about a great surge in the 1950s of the last century. We should turn Songun Korea into a great prosperous and powerful nation in the near future by effecting a new great surge in the 21st century.

There is no fortress unconquerable for the DPRK as long as the seasoned and tested leadership is provided by the Party and all the servicepersons and people are single-mindedly united and the DPRK has matchless armed forces and the tremendous potential of the independent national economy.

The letter noted that to effect a great upswing at present represents a do-or-die struggle for devotedly safeguarding Kim Jong Il, the destiny of the country, and defending socialism and a drive for bringing about a great surge in the technological revolution and modernization.

It called upon the working people across the country to launch an all-people grand march for flinging open the gate of a great prosperous and powerful nation by 2012 in a bid to intensify the movement for bringing about a new great revolutionary surge and hold higher with increased courage the banner of self-reliance.

To create something new and advanced our own way is the mode of advance to be adhered to in the present movement for effecting a new great upswing and a key to victory, the letter noted, adding: "Let us demonstrate the mettle of Koreans in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation!" This is the call of the Party and our militant banner.
