Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- The Teachers Union of south Korea held a meeting in Taegu on Jan. 14 as an event prior to "a congress for realizing genuine education" at which it denounced the puppet authorities' moves to revise history textbooks. Speakers at the meeting charged that the Lee Myung Bak conservative ruling forces' recent pressure for revising modern history textbooks seeks a political aim. Accusing the Seoul City Education Office of putting unreasonable pressure upon teachers in charge of history education over such matters as discussion and textbook screening in a bid to force them to rewrite history textbooks, in particular, they termed this action biased and illegal. They chided the Lee Myung Bak "government" for insisting on an unreasonable education policy and even attempting to openly suppress the union, opposed to the "government's" policy. They declared that the union would wage the union-centered struggle in solidarity with all civic and public organizations against the above-said policy in the future. |
