President Kim Il Sung took a measure for publishing a mass general magazine which might contribute to the ideological, cultural and emotional life of the people and named it Chollima as required by the times when the whole country was seething with a great Chollima surge.

The inaugural issue of the magazine was published in January of Juche 48 (1959).

As a reader of the magazine and tender-hearted teacher of its journalists and editors the President provided meticulous guidance to the publication of the magazine so that it could creditably discharge its mission in each period of the developing revolution.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il indicated specific ways of further developing the magazine into a mass general magazine popular among readers as intended by the President.

Over the past five decades the magazine has served as a powerful weapon making a genuine contribution to modeling the whole society on the Juche idea and a close companion of the popular masses.
