He was accompanied by Ri Chol Bong, chief secretary of the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the WPK, Pak Nam Gi, department director of the WPK Central Committee, and Pak Myong Chol, councilor of the NDC of the DPRK.

He was greeted on the spot by Pak Jong Nam, secretary of the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the WPK, Ri Il Sop, chairman of the Wonsan City People's Committee, and leading officials of the factories.

The first leg of his guidance was the Wonsan Glass Bottle Factory.

He dropped in at the room dedicated to its history to be briefed on it. Then he went round the processing shop and other production processes to learn in detail about the technical updating and production there.

He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the workers of the factory have modernized the production of glass bottles in a brief span of time by positively applying advanced technology in hearty response to the WPK's policy of bringing about a signal turn in the light industry, thus mass-producing varieties of glass products.

The factory has steadily increased the production with locally available materials by consolidating the material and technical foundation by its own efforts, he said, adding that the experience of this factory once again proves the truth that a great leap forward is sure to be effected in the production and construction when the Party's slogan "Self-reliance is the only way out!" is fully implemented in the work and life.

He set forth tasks to be fulfilled by the factory, noting that the factory is of great significance in improving the standard of the people's living in the province.

Underscoring the need to direct primary attention to increasing varieties of products at the factory, he called on the factory to produce different varieties of bottles and kitchen ware for diverse use.

He underlined the necessity for the factory to continue putting it on a modern and scientific basis, actively apply new technology and steadily raise the workers' level of technical skills.

The next leg of his guidance was the Wonsan Shoes Factory.

After learning about the details of the shoes production there, ranging from the styles and shapes to the weight of the shoes produced by the factory, he said that the quality of shoes is still not good in the light of the need of the times. He indicated the tasks and ways to decisively improve their quality.

Noting that it is the invariable plan and will of the Party to provide the people with the best things, he instructed the factory to set this year as a year for technological innovation and bring about a signal turn in improving the quality of products through strenuous efforts and thus provide people with more light and attractive shoes.

Then he provided field guidance to the Wonsan Chemical Factory.

He walked round different places of the factory including the seal material shop to acquaint himself in detail with the production there.

The shining reality of the factory eloquently proves the principle of the IT age that science and technology precisely mean production and vise versa, he said, adding that only when science and technology are closely combined with production in the DPRK can they serve as a powerful engine of the revolution and construction and provide a sure scientific and technological guarantee for building a great prosperous powerful nation.

He praised the officials of the factory, who have grown to be creative human beings making a steady advance to produce everything new and successfully combining thought and practice, for succeeding in developing seal material of Korean style badly needed by different domains of the national economy by proposing a bold technological goal and tenaciously putting it into practice. This is the work style of the officials required by the Party, he added.

He set forth the tasks to be carried out by the factory, pointing out that it is of great significance in developing the national economy.

After making the rounds of the factories in Wonsan City, he expressed expectation and belief that the workers of the city would bring about a great leap forward on all fronts by displaying the same indomitable mental power as they displayed when building the Wonsan Youth Power Station.
