Pyongyang, March 5 (KCNA) -- The advantageous national character of the Koreans is a foundation for achieving the great national unity and national reunification, says Rodong Sinmun Thursday in a signed article. It is only the national character that can serve as a foundation for achieving the great national unity and national reunification irrespective of differences in systems, ideologies, isms, political views and religious faith, classes and strata between the north and the south, the temporary phenomena caused by the national split, the article notes, and goes on: It is the common mentality of every member of a nation to love his nation and value the national character. If all Koreans regard this national identity as a basis, they can unite as one irrespective of the differing ideologies and systems between the north and the south and reunify the country. The community of the nation was formed and has been consolidated through its history spanning 5 000 years is strong enough to overcome the above-mentioned differences in ideologies, isms and systems. This is clearly evidenced by the great vitality of "By our nation itself" which reflects the spirit of national independence and patriotism. The June 15 era of reunification instills into all the fellow countrymen conviction and optimism that the cause of national reunification is sure to win only when they preserve and glorify the national character. The adoption of the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration provided all the fellow countrymen with an opportunity to preserve the homogeneity and identity of the Korean nation. The hearts of the Koreans in the north and the south are burning with the patriotic enthusiasm to achieve the national unity and reunification though they differ in ideologies and systems. The course of the advance of the June 15 era of reunification that witnessed the strengthening of the process of national reconciliation and unity and the development of the movement for national reunification in the idea of "By our nation itself" proves that if all Koreans pool their intention and will by preserving the national identity peculiar to them, they can surely attain unity and reunification no matter how desperately foreign forces may hamstring the efforts to attain reunification. All Koreans in the north and the south and abroad should positively turn out in the struggle to preserve and glorify the national character, bearing deep in mind that the national character serves as a precious asset for accomplishing the cause of national reunification advancing under the uplifted banner of the June 15 joint declaration and the Oct. 4 declaration. |
