The large-size hydroelectric power stations built in Kangwon, North Hwanghae and North Phyongan Provinces are supplying ample electricity to the economic sectors.

The commissioning of the Wonsan Youth Power Station and Ryesonggang Youth Power Station No.1 made it possible respectively to solve the problem of drinking water in Kangwon Province and to irrigate fully the vast rezoned Yonbaek Plain.

The power stations built along Taeryong River protect these areas from flood damage like embankment.

Hundreds of minor power stations constructed over last ten-odd years are providing enough electric power to local industry factories so as to put their production on normal track and to dwelling houses for their lighting and heating.

With the completion of their construction, the Hungju Youth Power Station No.2 and Kumjingang Hungbong Youth Power Station have put thousands of hectares of arable land under protection from drought and flood damage in Kanggye City of Jagang Province and Hamju County of South Hamgyong Province and secured irrigation water there.

The areas of the power stations have turned into artificial lakes, cultural recreation grounds, fish-breeding ponds and bird habitats.

Seen on the artificial lakes are sightseeing boats and on their shores are rest homes and rest buildings for peasants. And a landscape like park has been arranged with curious rocks and forests in their surroundings. The dams across the rivers are used as bridge.

The cosy modern dwellings and rest homes in forests are picturesque in harmony with power stations and surrounding landscape.
