The games were divided into the 45km, 21km, and 10km events.

Participated in the game held in Pyongyang were over 300 male and female marathoners selected from 20-odd sports teams and juvenile sports schools.

More than 170 athletes won the qualification for the marathon contest at the game.

More than 130 marathoners were qualified to participate in the contest at the marathon race held in Sariwon City of North Hwanghae Province with the attendance of over 250 athletes from nine units including the North and South Hwanghae Provincial Sports Teams.

A similar race was held in Anju City of South Phyongan Province with the participation of fine athletes from over 10 units including the North and South Phyongan Provincial Sports Teams and Jagang Provincial Sports Team.

The race bestowed the qualification on more than 100 marathoners from the South Phyongan Provincial Sports Team, the Sports Team of Sinuiju University of Medicine and other units.

Some 80 runners were selected in the east sea area marathon game held in Hamhung City of South Hamgyong Province.

The selected runners will take part in the International Association of Athletics Federations - the 22nd Mangyongdae Prize Marathon Contest to be held in Pyongyang in April together with marathoners from various countries.
