Seen everywhere in the country are the reliable features of women replete with happiness and optimism.

After the liberation of the country President Kim Il Sung saw to it that the Law on Sex Equality was promulgated on July 30, 1946, thus making all the women exercise equal rights with men in all fields.

The women in the DPRK are a reliable force which is respected duly and is pushing one of the wheels of revolution.

Plenty of women are deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) who discuss the state's affairs, officials of people's government bodies, working people's organizations, industrial establishments and co-op farms, heroines, professors, doctors, famous stars and ace athletes.

Hundreds of thousands of women scientists, technicians and specialists are doing their bits in various sectors of the national economy.

The proportion of women among deputies to the SPA is 20.1 percent and lots of women are working as deputies to the provincial, city and county people's assemblies.

The government guarantees by law the women's socio-political life, exercise of rights and interests through the Socialist Labor Law, the Law on the Public Health and the Family Law and ensures the thorough implementation of the laws.

In particular the women are afforded great state benefits including the paid maternity leave, the working day for the female workers with three and more children is six hours and all the children are brought up in nurseries and kindergartens at the expense of state and society.

There is the Democratic Women's Union of Korea, mass political organization of the women.

Since it joined the Women's International Democratic Federation in October of Juche 35 (1946), the union has constantly expanded and developed the cooperative relations with progressive women's organizations of various countries under the idea of independence, peace and friendship.
