World Meteorological Day Observed
Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Monday dedicates a signed article to World Meteorological Day. On this occasion every year the WMO sets a subject to draw international attention to the meteorological problems closely related to the human life, the important issues to be urgently solved in this domain in every period in particular, and conducts colorful events and activities according to it, the daily says.

Noting that long strides have been made in the worldwide meteorological observation and forecasting over the past years, the article stresses that it is the vital demand of the international community to prevent the global warming caused by human beings, a task which brooks no delay.

It goes on:

The abnormal weather phenomena bring about unexpected natural disasters, causing huge human and material losses. This requires further improving the worldwide meteorological observation and forecasting and boosting the international cooperation in that domain.

The DPRK, which entered the WMO in 1975, established the hydro-meteorological management system suited to its specific conditions and has stepped up the modernization of this system under the care of the state. It is striving to ensure correct and quick forecast for the meteorological conditions affecting the national economy and the people's living and activities, while strengthening the international cooperation in this field.
