Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- The DPRK is concentrating much effort on hydro-meteorological work to prevent natural disasters and air pollution. The State Hydro-Meteorological Administration of the DPRK and meteorological, hydrological and oceanographic observatories across the country have established a well-arranged data communication system to inform weather data every day. The administration provides necessary meteorological and hydrological data to various sectors of the national economy in time so as to prevent or reduce natural disasters as much as possible. In order to curtail damages from dangerous disasters, a strict system for ensuring most accurate and swift forecast and warning abnormal weather phenomena has been established and this work is being carried on under social care. The administration is also taking positive measures to prevent damages by the yellow sand and air pollution caused by climatic changes. As soon as it gets information on the yellow sand occurring areas, the administration casts the news through TVs and radios. It also is taking scrupulous measures to prevent air pollution by sulfurous acid gas emitted in neighboring countries by developing a template of sulfurous acid gas long-distance movement. On the occasion of the World Meteorological Day (March 23), the DPRK is conducting various activities including lecture on the influence of yellow sand on the human body and on other contents to suit "Weather, climate and the air we breathe", the theme for this year put forth by the World Meteorological Organization. |
