Rodong Sinmun Friday observes this in a by-lined article.

The imperialists' overseas military bases are operating as military strategic strongholds for implementing their policy of strength and the forces stationed there are playing the role of a shock brigade for aggression, the article notes, and says:

The daily mounting movement for independence against imperialism and a serious economic crisis that hit the world, etc. have thrown the imperialists into a tight corner. They are trying to seek a way out of this in aggression and war.

Citing facts to prove that the imperialists are busy setting up new military bases overseas or expanding the existing ones in a bid to contain the hostile countries, secure fuel and raw materials badly needed by them and put areas rich in major resources and military strongholds under their control, the article goes on to say:

The above-said bases are dangerous powder magazines and basic sources of a war of aggression. It is a criminal act of infringing upon the national dignity and sovereignty of other countries for the imperialists to operate their military bases for aggression in those countries.

The state sovereignty and the national dignity are infringed upon and violated in those countries which host those military bases and their people are suffering misfortune and pain. This is clearly evidenced by the reality of south Korea.

The above-mentioned facts indicate that the imperialists' operation of their military bases for aggression in other countries and their moves to expand them are doing serious harm to the efforts to ensure peace and security in the world and humankind's existence and the development of its civilization.

It is impossible to ensure peace and security in the world and protect the sovereignty and dignity of countries and nations nor is it possible to expect people's safety and the development of civilization unless the imperialists dismantle their military bases overseas.

The global peace and security can be lasting and durable only when the imperialists' bases and means for aggression and war are completely eliminated from the world.
