The chairmen at the meeting expressed deep concern over the prevailing grave situation in which the north-south joint declarations that ushered in a new era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity of the nation have been blatantly denied and the north-south relations are inching close to the phase of all-out confrontation and the brink of war.

The meeting discussed the issues of increasing the role of the above-said committee and reenergizing the movement for implementing the north-south joint declarations to cope with the prevailing situation.

The chairmen reached a consensus on the need for the committee to strengthen the unity of the forces supporting the June 15 joint declaration at home and abroad and play a leading role in the nation-wide movement for implementing the north-south joint declarations.

It was stressed at the meeting that dependence on outside forces and sycophantic and treacherous moves should be rejected and the issue of reunification and the internal affairs of the nation should be independently solved by the concerted efforts of the Koreans.

The meeting agreed to jointly and strongly react against the fascist suppression of the reunification movement organizations grouping people from all walks of life, recognizing that this is an unpardonable anti-reunification act as it throws a big hurdle in the way of implementing the north-south joint declarations.

It termed the action taken by the south Korean conservative ruling quarters to disallow some members of the south side committee to participate in the meeting an action to stamp out the non-governmental movement for reunification and decided to dynamically wage the struggle against Japan's distortion of history, its attempt to grab Tok Islet and hostile acts against the DPRK and suppression of Koreans in Japan as a joint national movement.

It also decided to positively conduct joint actions and a solidarity movement together with the political parties, organizations and personages supporting the north-south joint declarations and aspiring after the peace and reunification of the country.

It was agreed at the meeting to set the period from June 15, the 9th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration, to October 4 as "the period of the movement for implementing the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration" and wage diverse and intensive mass movements for defending and implementing the north-south joint declarations during the period for the purpose of giving momentum to the atmosphere of supporting the joint declarations.
