When General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited the newly built Wonsan Youth Power Station in early January this year, he said that the people of Kangwon Province created a thing out of nothing and this proud success represented the victory of the great mental power of the Korean people to build a great, prosperous and powerful socialist nation without fail by dint of their own strength, technology and resources.

Many miracles have been wrought in the DPRK by an indomitable spirit of the Korean people who are vigorously dashing forward toward an eminence of the times in their own way with a firm belief in their strength, turning impossibility into possibility and the unfavorable circumstances into favorable ones.

Lots of power stations, big and small, have been constructed across the country, which have protected the lives and property of the people and increased the power output. At the same time, they have made a great contribution to the economic development of the nation and changed the looks of the territory.

Thanks to the dynamic land re-zoning projects, hundreds of thousands of hectares of paddy and non-paddy fields have been readjusted to suit socialist Korea and the Kaechon-Lake Thaesong Waterway and the Paekma-Cholsan Waterway, large-scale gravity-fed irrigation system, have been completed, demonstrating their great vitality.

The people in the east coastal areas, who had been supplied with the salt produced in the west coastal areas in the past, have built the Kwangmyongsong Saltern and the Wonsan Bay Saltern with their efforts, contributing to the development of the nation's chemical industry and local industry and improving the people's living.

Many cities and counties including Samjiyon County of Ryanggang Province, Hoeryong City of North Hamgyong Province, Manpho City of Jagang Province and Ryongchon County of North Phyongan Province were wonderfully facelifted and rural villages including Poman-ri of Sohung County and Migok-ri of Sariwon City, North Hwanghae Province, were turned into the paradises of the Workers' Party era and the socialist fairylands.

Now the Korean people are striving hard with a firm determination to open the gate to a thriving nation by 2012, the centenary of President Kim Il Sung's birth, by giving fullest play to the indomitable mental power and mobilizing all the potentialities made under the banner of Songun.
