Celebration Events Held by Working People's Organizations

Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- Meetings were held by workers and trade union members at the plaza of the Monument to Party Founding, by youth and students at the Central Youth Hall, by agricultural workers on the Migok Cooperative Farm of Sariwon City and by women's union members at the plaza of the Arch of Triumph on April 6 and 7 on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK.

Present there were Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials of the trade union, the youth league, the union of agricultural workers and the women's union, working people, youth and students.

Kim Pyong Phal, chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, Ri Yong Chol, first secretary of the C.C., the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, Kang Chang Uk, chairman of the C.C., the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea, and Ro Song Sil, chairperson of the C.C., the Democratic Women's Union of Korea, made reports at the meetings to be followed by speeches.

The reporters and speakers said that Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the NDC provided a sure guarantee for creditably carrying forward President Kim Il Sung's idea of building the national capability for self-defence and his original cause of nation-building and accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche that started on Mt. Paektu.

They stressed the need to wage a dynamic drive for bringing about a new great revolutionary surge in the production and construction, breathing the same breath as Kim Jong Il does in his forced march.

They recalled that the young vanguard has grown to be the forerunners in the era and performers of feats under the care of the peerlessly great man who ushered in a great heyday of the Juche-based youth movement with his politics of attaching importance to arms and the youth.

Noting that under the care of Kim Jong Il the material and technological foundation of the rural economy has been further consolidated, a boost effected in the agricultural production and the countryside of the DPRK changed into a socialist land of bliss in the era of Songun, they underlined the need to bring about a new great revolutionary surge in the agricultural production this year.

They called upon the women's union members to do a lot of good things conducive to building a great prosperous and powerful nation and bravely turn out in the present general advance to give full play to the stamina of the women of Songun Korea.

The participants at the meetings listened to poems "Pledge Made by Young Vanguard to the Great Brilliant Commander of Songun" and "We Will Uphold the Cause of Songun of Our Party with Rice" and group poem "We Will Dash like the Wind under the Leadership of the Brilliant Commander of Songun."
