This factory standing on the bank of the Taedong River is a general foodstuff processing base which produces foodstuffs of more than 350 varieties including noodles, rice-cakes, cooking oil, confectionery, tea, processed local farm products and processed fish.

After being briefed on the factory before a huge map showing a panoramic view of the factory,
Kim Jong Il looked round the production processes for a long while to acquaint himself in detail with the technical equipment and production.

Watching various kinds of foodstuffs being churned out in an unbroken chain, he expressed great satisfaction over the fact that cultured practices are fully ensured in production and life and production is kept going at a high rate.

He said that the Samilpho Special Products Factory is a profitable factory as it produces a lot of peculiar foodstuffs entirely in reliance upon locally available raw materials and a model factory which has successfully implemented the WPK's policy on the light industrial revolution including the packing revolution. He extended his sincere thanks to its employees.

This factory is an excellent factory which fully meets the requirements of the IT age in all aspects, he noted, adding that this shining success is the precious fruition of the noble spiritual world of the KPA and people who live not merely for today but for tomorrow with ardent patriotism.

The People's Army is successfully playing a core and vanguard role in the on-going general offensive to open the gate to a great prosperous and powerful nation like the creator of the revolutionary soldier spirit, he said, highly appreciating the feats performed by the servicepersons intensely loyal to the Party.

He met with the persons of merit who have devotedly worked for the development of the factory for years since the outset of its construction and warmly encouraged them. He had a photograph taken with them.

He called on all provinces to build lots of similar factories to contribute to improving the standard of people's living.

Then he provided field guidance to the Samilpho Special Products Shop operated by the above-said factory.

There he underscored the need to improve the service to meet the intrinsic requirements of socialist commerce and specified ways to do so.

He set forth important tasks which would serve as guidelines for managing and operating the factory.

Noting that it is the will and determination of the Party to provide the best things to the people, he stressed the need for the factory to continue paying deep attention to bringing the quality of foodstuffs to the best level.

He was accompanied by KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers of the army, Secretary Kim Ki Nam and Department Directors Jang Song Thaek, Choe Ik Gyu and Kim Yang Gon of the WPK Central Committee.
