The festival has contributed to consolidating unity and cooperation among artistes of various countries in the idea of independence, peace and friendship and powerfully promoting the development of human culture and art.

Present there were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Ro Tu Chol, vice-premier of the Cabinet, Kang Nung Su, minister of Culture who is chairman of the organizing committee of the festival, Pak Kwan O, chairman of the Pyongyang City People's Committee, officials concerned and artistes and working people in Pyongyang.

It was also attended by foreign artistes, overseas Korean artistes and diplomatic envoys and embassy officials of various countries and representatives of international organizations here, foreign guests and overseas compatriots.

At the prize awarding ceremony held earlier, group prizes went to the Chinese art troupe (Shanghai Symphony Orchestra), the State Academy Ensemble Named after Sveshnikov of Russia, the Cossack State Dance Company of Russia, the art troupe of Koreans in Japan, the art troupe of Koreans in China and the art troupe of Vietnam, merit, individual and ensemble prizes to many artistes, festival participants and items.

Kang Nung Su said in his closing address that the festival offered the artistes of different countries a good occasion for deepening friendly feelings, exchanging achievements and experience they gained in the development of national art, closely cooperating with each other in the fields of music, dance and acrobat and expanding and developing cultural exchange.

Noting that the participants in the festival highly praised the greatness of President Kim Il Sung and expressed support and solidarity with the Korean people in the struggle for building a thriving nation and achieving national reunification under the leadership of Kim Jong Il, he expressed the belief that they would participate in the festival with sincerity in the future, too.

A performance was given at the closing ceremony.
