The statement noted that Kim Il Sung had wisely led the socialist revolution and construction in the DPRK until the last moments of his life.

It further said: The President embarked on the road of revolution in his early years and defeated the Japanese imperialists in his thirties. He led the 1950-1953 Fatherland Liberation War against the U.S. imperialists to victory and, afterwards, turned the DPRK into a socialist state independent in politics, self-supporting in the economy and self-reliant in national defence, smashing every machination of the imperialists.

The statement said that General Secretary Kim Jong Il is now wisely leading the Korean people's struggle to frustrate the U.S.-led imperialists' provocations and threat.

It noted with high appreciation that the Korean people successfully launched its satellite Kwangmyongsong-2 by the strength of self-reliance, thus demonstrating to the whole world the nation's level of scientific and technological development.
