The work has it as its basic principle to make a substantial contribution to the economic development of the country and the promotion of the people's welfare in accordance with the intrinsic requirements of the socialist society and is guaranteed thoroughly by the state policy and by laws and regulations related to the intellectual property rights field.

Having adopted the "Law on Invention of the DPRK", the state gives invention right or patent right to the scientific and technological achievements which can produce new, developed and greater technological and economic results.

Along with this, the state protects the invention rights and patent rights so that they are ensured strictly and increases constantly the investment needed for encouraging the invention work actively and applying the results to practice.

The state also adopted laws for the protection of trademark, place name of origin and industrial design to establish a strict system and order in the application of all units for the registration of trademark and place name of origin and their examination. And it lets them constantly renovate the industrial design to suit the developing national economy and the growth of production.

In accordance with the "Copy-write Law of the DPRK", relevant personal and property rights are given to the citizens who have created various kinds of literary and art pieces, scientific treatises, maps, designs, computer programmes and other creations and editions and all the working people are demanded to strictly adhere to the instituted order in the protection of the copy-write and in the utilization of works.

On the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day Choe Chi Ho, a department director of the State Administration for Quality Management, had this to say at an interview with KCNA: The DPRK has enacted and promulgated new laws and regulations related to the intellectual property rights and amended and supplemented them in recent years. It is thus developing in a go-ahead way the work of laying a firm guarantee for raising the social understanding of the intellectual property rights and carrying out scientific enterprise strategy, operation strategy.

Colorful activities such as exhibition, seminar and short-course will take place in the DPRK according to the theme "Green Innovation" for this year advanced by the World Intellectual Property Organization.
