Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- Pak Ui Chun, minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK, addressing the ministerial meeting of the Coordinating Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Cuba on April 29, said that the NAM serves as a leading force for ensuring global peace and security and establishing a new fair international order and clarified views on its development. He underscored the need for the member states of the NAM to boost the unity and solidarity in the struggle to protect the sovereignty and give fullest play to the potential of the movement in an effort to increase the capability for intensifying the collective actions in the international arena. It is a legitimate right equally granted to all countries to explore outer space and use it for peaceful purposes, he noted, adding that it was a wanton violation of the outer space treaty for the UNSC to have chided the DPRK's just satellite launch for peaceful purposes conducted after going through all the procedures of international law. The situation prevailing on the Korean Peninsula proves once again the justice and urgency of the call of the NAM for reforming the anachronistic UNSC which lacks democracy and does not reflect the will of the UN member nations, he noted, and went on: The fact that the states participating in the six-party talks were directly or indirectly involved in the unprecedented high-handed practices of the UNSC clearly indicates that the talks have been reduced to a platform for disarming the DPRK and bringing it to its knees. It is the steadfast resolution and stand of the DPRK government that it will not to participate in the talks any more and it will not be bound to any agreement of the talks any longer. The DPRK will protect the peace and security on the Korean Peninsula in a responsible manner with the powerful war deterrent built up thanks to the Songun politics of leader Kim Jong Il. He expressed the expectation that the member states of the NAM would understand and support the resolution which the DPRK government was compelled to make to defend the sovereignty of the country and remain true to the basic idea of the NAM. The DPRK government will creditably fulfil its mission and responsibility to invariably observe and implement the basic principle and idea of the NAM in the future, too, he concluded. |
