Pyongyang, May 3 (KCNA) -- "May Day All-People's Rally" was held in Youido, Seoul, on May 1. It was attended by members of at least 500 civic and public organizations and political parties including the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and more than 50,000 citizens. The KCTU in a declaration issued at the rally accused the Lee Myung Bak "government" of working hard to enact the "MB (Lee Myung Bak) Evil Law" aimed at serving the privileged circle which accounts for just one percent of the population while depriving the workers and the common people of their lives under the pretext of the economic crisis. The declaration called for staging social solidarity actions in order to put an end to the unpopular misrule of the authorities. Noting that people from all walks of life have the experience of waging a dynamic solidarity struggle against the import of American beef last year, holding candle lights, the declaration called upon all the progressive forces to unite close as one and launch again an anti-Lee Myung Bak solidarity struggle, holding high candle lights. Speeches were made there by representatives of people from all walks of life. The rally made public "10 major demands" such as the repeal of "MB Evil Law," a halt to the retrogressive revision of "law on irregular jobs" and "law on minimum wages," retraction of "motion calling for the National Assembly's ratification of FTA" between south Korea and the U.S., probe into the truth about the Ryongsan tragedy, cancellation of the plan to fully participate in the PSI, implementation of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, etc. At the end of the rally more than 2,000 members of the KCTU and civic and public organizations and youth and students, netizens occupied the roads in the area of Jongro Street and staged a fierce demonstration. May Day witnessed simultaneous mass actions in different parts of south Korea in demand of the resignation of the Lee Myung Bak regime. A "preparatory committee for national students actions" grouping the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils, the students committee of the Democratic Labor Party, the "south Korean Federation of Students in the 21st Century" and others held a rally in the playground of Sungsil University in Seoul before launching an intensive students struggle for judging the Lee Myung Bak puppet regime. |
