The three principles of national reunification serve as a charter of reunification common to the nation indicating the most correct way of independent national reunification as they reflect the aspiration and desire of the nation for the peace of the country and peaceful reunification and they are based on a scientific analysis of the essence and character of the issue of national reunification and the main requirements and principled issues related to the struggle of the Korean people for achieving national reunification.

Basing himself on the above-said three principles, Kim Il Sung newly set out the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo and the 10-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation, arousing the whole nation to the dynamic struggle for implementing them.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il formulated the three principles of national reunification, the 10-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the DFRK as the three charters for national reunification to be held fast to by the Korean nation and has energetically led all Koreans to carry out the last instructions of Kim Il Sung for national reunification. Kim Jong Il also provided the nation with the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, a great programme for independent national reunification, and the October 4 declaration, a programme for its implementation.

The June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration are the declarations for independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity, embodiments of the three principles of national reunification clarified by Kim Il Sung and a milestone of national reunification in the 21st century.

Big hurdles and difficulties are lying in the way of national reunification due to the anti-reunification acts and moves for confrontation with the DPRK pursued by outside aggression forces and their stooges Lee Myung Bak group, but the Korean nation is optimistic about the prospect of national reunification.

All Koreans in the north and the south and overseas should unite close as one under the banner of the three principles of national reunification and the north-south joint declarations and dynamically wage a nationwide patriotic movement for the reunification of the country in order to accomplish the historic cause of independent national reunification without fail.
