Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification of south Korea held a press conference in Seoul on May 1 to condemn the United States for its brazen-faced action to pressurize the puppet authorities to pay rents for the houses of the families of the service members of the U.S. forces. The organization disclosed the fact that a business enterprise in charge of the construction of the houses for families of service members of the U.S. forces envisaged in the plan for the expansion of the base of the U.S. forces in Phyongthaek recently urged the U.S. forces side to cover the expenses for the operation and management of the houses for those families for 45 years but the side insisted that it would cover the expenses for 15 years only. As the contract with the enterprise was not concluded as desired by the U.S. forces side, it is pressurizing the south Korean authorities to stand guarantee for it in a bid to achieve its aim at any cost, the organization noted, and continued: The U.S. is putting pressure upon the south Korean authorities to pay even the rents for the above-mentioned houses, not content with having perpetrated the illegal act of using the money collected as taxes of south Koreans to cover the expenses for the relocation of its military bases according to its strategy. How brazen-faced this is. Recalling that the Lee Myung Bak "government" is set to meet the U.S. demand under the pretext of "strategic alliance", the organization warned that the people would never allow the regime to yield to such pressure after offering facilities to the U.S. troops. The organization strongly urged the U.S. to give up such pressure and, furthermore, stop the expansion of the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek. |
