Speakers at the news conference accused the U.S. of pressurizing the south Korean authorities to pay rents for the houses of the families of the service members of the U.S. to be built in the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek.

They charged that at a time when millions of families are left homeless the authorities, indifferent to their wretched plight, are busy with the move to cover the above-said rents.

They declared that the "Ministry of Defense" should never be allowed to spend a huge amount of money for the U.S. troops, which should be channeled into stabilizing people's livelihood.

They demanded the military authorities fully clarify the contents of the agreement made with the U.S. over the above-mentioned rents and immediately cancel the plan for the expansion of the said base.

They also urged the "National Assembly" to start the probe into the truth about the ministry's sycophancy and submission to the U.S.
