The science and technology of the country which started from tabula rasa after the liberation have become one of the three pillars for the building of a socialist economic power.

Since the foundation of Kim Il Sung University, the first university of the people, in October Juche 35 (1946), hundreds of universities have come into being, which have produced nearly 2 million intellectuals.

The number of holders of academic degrees and titles including academician, candidate academician, professor and doctor is increasing as the days go by and world-level talents in their 20s and 30s have been reared.

Scientists and technicians have reliably ensured the construction of the West Sea Barrage and other grand edifices and the production of modern large-sized machines such as 10,000 ton press and 18,000 cubic meter oxygen plant.

They have applied more than 69,000 technical innovations to production through the activities of the February 17 Shock Brigade of Scientists and Technicians every year, thus going a long way toward accelerating the Juche-orientation, modernization and scientification of the national economy.

They have developed many effective application programs needed for the technical modernization of the national economy.

Recent years have witnessed that a Korean-style UHP electric arc furnace was installed at the Chollima Steel Complex and a large-sized oxygen plant at the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, making it possible to strengthen the Juche character and independence of the metal industry and to increase the iron and steel output of the country.

Now the scientists and technicians of the country are doing their bit in solving the scientific and technical issues arising in the building of a socialist economic power with indomitable spirit.
