Kim Jong Il Visits Kosan Fruit Farm
Pyongyang, June 7 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to the Kosan Fruit Farm.

After being briefed on the farm before its map on prospective plan, he went round different parts of the farm including a newly-built orchard to acquaint himself in detail with the modernization of orchard and fruit production.

He gave a high appreciation of the fact that the party members and other working people of the farm created the orchard of 700 hectares, finished the construction of network of its facilities and dwelling houses for several dozens of households and the building of nursery on an expansion basis and did a lot of other work in one year.

Stressing the need to further develop pomiculture so as to provide the people with much more fruit, he advanced highly important tasks to be carried out by the farm.

The development prospect of the Kosan Fruit Farm located in good place is very rosy as it has favorable physiographical conditions for pomiculture, he said, indicating the orientation and ways for turning the farm into a modern and large-size fruit farm.

Saying that the farm should be renewed on a modern basis in keeping with the requirements of the new century in order to bring about a radical turn in fruit production, he underlined the need to conduct on a large scale its overall reclamation project ranging from basic construction to rearrangement of orchard and establishment of irrigation system according to a scientific long-term plan.

He said that measures for storing and processing fruits should be taken in a foresighted manner to supply fruits to the people without any waste since the output of fruits will considerably increase on the farm in a few years.

Nationwide and all-people efforts should be directed to the development of pomiculture to consolidate the already achieved successes and further expand them, he stressed.

He said that the development of pomiculture would be conducive to further improving the people's diet, promoting their health and rapidly developing the foodstuff industry as well as sprucing up the country more beautifully.

The development of pomiculture is one of the important undertakings for the people's everlasting prosperity, he said, earnestly calling for sustained efforts to this work to hand down to the posterity the better socialist paradise.

Noting that the role of the Kosan Fruit Farm is of very importance in supplying much more fruit to the people, he expressed great expectation and firm belief that the farm would effect a fresh turn in fruit production.

Accompanying him were Secretary Kim Ki Nam and department directors Jang Song Thaek and Pak Nam Gi of the WPK Central Committee and Generals of the Korean People's Army Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su.
