Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- Personages of New Zealand and Egypt issued statements on June 8 to mark the 9th anniversary of the adoption of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration. Don Borrie, chairman of the New Zealand-DPRK Society, said that the joint declaration, adopted on June 15, 2000, opened up a historic chapter in the history of the movement for Korea's reunification. He went on to say: Since the publication of the declaration, epochal measures were taken for implementing it and signal successes made in the course of Korea's reunification. The adoption of the October 4 declaration in 2007 was an eye-opening event for peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula. But, the inter-Korean relations developing on good terms have been put on confrontational phase after the emergence of the Lee Myung Bak regime in south Korea in 2008. The DPRK expressed its will to sincerely implement the June 15 joint declaration. The world peace-loving people are extending full support to the Korean people in the efforts to realize the peaceful reunification of the country in the idea of "By our nation itself". Siham Ahmad Mugahed, chairman of the Egypt-Korea Friendship Association, said that Korea's reunification is a problem pertaining to the Korean nation to be solved by the Koreans responsible for it and the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration are of special significance in doing so. The adoption of the June 15 joint declaration based on the idea of "By our nation itself" was a noteworthy event that brought about a landmark phase in the Korean reunification movement and this declaration serves as a milestone for Korea's reunification, he stressed. The cause of Korea's reunification is sure to be realized thanks to the strong mainstay of independence provided by General Secretary Kim Jong Il, he said, expressing belief that the Korean people will certainly achieve the independent reunification of the country under the banner of "By our nation itself". |
