The congress adopted the following "resolution on the peace and peaceful reunification of Korea":

The situation prevailing on the Korean Peninsula where the military confrontation and tension are daily escalating arouses the international community's great concern.

The movement for Korea's reunification is facing a serious challenge though it had made dynamic progress after the publication of the June 15 joint declaration agreed upon by the top leaders of the north and the south and the inter-Korean relations are in the grip of the worst crisis.

This is entirely attributable to the moves of the U.S. and its followers to stifle the DPRK and the confrontational policy of the south Korean conservative authorities.

The 17th congress of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers declares as follows, recognizing that the peace, security and reunification of the Korean Peninsula are one of the key issues in defending peace in Northeast Asia and the rest of the world:

The U.S. should stop all its hostile acts of threatening the DPRK including war exercises and take the earliest possible measure for replacing the armistice agreement with a peace agreement so as to discontinue laying obstacles in the way of realizing the peace, security and reunification of the Korean Peninsula.

The south Korean authorities should give up sycophancy towards the U.S. and the idea of inter-Korean confrontation and stop suppressing the pro-reunification progressive forces in south Korea and refrain from any act obstructive to the improvement of the inter-Korean relations and the solution of the issue of the reunification of Korea.

We extend full support and solidarity to the Korean people in their struggle to achieve national reconciliation and unity and reunification, peace and prosperity under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration.
