The publication of the June 15 joint declaration marked a historic event that demonstrated with pride before the world the resolution of all the Koreans to put an end to the history of division and confrontation that has lasted for more than half a century and usher in a new era of independent and peaceful reunification, the new history of reunification and prosperity, the appeal said.

It referred to the fact that the north-south summit was provided again in October 2007 and the October 4 declaration was produced, indicating a specific orientation for developing the north-south relations and achieving peace and prosperity in the basic spirit of the June 15 joint declaration.

But the north-south joint declarations are negated due to the separatist forces' challenge to deter the history from advancing and their precious fruitions are gravely threatened and the military confrontation has reached an acute phase, the appeal said, calling for implementing the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and protecting peace from confrontation and war and urging all the Koreans at home and abroad to achieve firm unity under the banner of the north-south joint declarations. It continued:

We declare the period from June 15, the anniversary of the historic June 15 joint declaration, to October 4, the anniversary of the adoption of the October 4 declaration, as a "period of the movement for implementing the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration."

It is necessary to thoroughly check the anti-reunification and bellicose forces' arms buildup and war moves as they increase the danger of a war on this land.

Let us launch a dynamic mass struggle against Japan's hostile act and its moves for the revival of militarism with the 64th anniversary of the liberation of Korea, the 80th anniversary of the Kwangju student incident and the 99th anniversary of the fabrication of "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty," etc. as a momentum!

Let us weather the prevailing difficulties and more dynamically advance the June 15 era in firm unity irrespective of partisan interests, strata, region and affiliation!

Let all of us turn out in implementing the north-south joint declaration with optimism and confidence in the nation's reconciliation, peace, reunification and prosperity!

Saying that we will greet the 10th anniversary of the publication of the historic June 15 joint declaration next year, the appeal called upon all the Koreans at home and abroad to significantly greet the day with a shining victory in the patriotic struggle for reunification.
