The statement referred to the fact that the IS recently summoned members of the Pusan Headquarters of the committee to appear, charging them with violation of the "Security Law".

As for the deed the IS asserted as "violation" of the SL, the said organization sponsored an event marking the 9th publication anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration in Pusan at which the congratulatory messages from the North Side Committee and the Overseas Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration were read out, it said.

Recalling that similar messages from the north were read out at the previous reunification events, the statement expressed apprehension over the behavior of the IS seeking to repress the pro-reunification exchange, being officially conducted through the South Side Committee, by invoking the SL.

It urged the IS to repeal the unreasonable summons at once.

Meanwhile, the South Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance for Korea's Reunification made public a statement on the same day condemning the security authorities' recent arrest of the chairman of the 8th-term south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) and the former chairman of the Seoul District Federation of University Student Councils under Hanchongryon.

The statement urged the Lee Myung Bak "government" to release the arrested patriotic youths and all the prisoners of conscience, stop at once the anti-reunification moves and step down.
