Cause Clarified on the Spot
Pyongyang, July 8 (KCNA) -- One day in April of Juche 60 (1971) President Kim Il Sung visited a farm.

Saluted by officials of the farm, he said that he came there to discuss vegetable problem with them and suggested to look round vegetable fields first.

At a vegetable field, he asked an elderly woman peasant, who was transplanting spring vegetable sprouts in the field, from when vegetables were cultivated in the field.

She said that it had been used as a vegetable field from many years ago as it was situated in a land lower than other fields. He was absorbed in thinking for a while. And then, he asked her whether vegetables grew well in the previous year.

After hesitating to answer, she said that the vegetables grew well first but they were getting rotten after the rainy season only to reap bad harvest.

He looked round the field once again as if there was something to be guessed and surveyed closely its topographical conditions. And he, with confidence, said that vegetables of the field got rotten because it was in lowland and people thought that as vegetables demanded much water, they would grow well in lowlands but the thought was wrong.

He went on to say that as the vegetable plot is located in a low wet land, vegetables grew well in the dry season but rainwater stood in the plot even after a light rain and vegetables grew rotten from the root.

Listening to him, officials of the farm and peasants were deeply impressed by his words.

That day President Kim Il Sung gave a clear-cut answer to the problem the peasants who had cultivated vegetables for generations did not solve, thus brightly lighting the way of vegetable farming.
