Scheme to Gag Press Flayed in S. Korea
Pyongyang, July 10 (KCNA) -- More than 130 media persons of south Korea issued a statement on July 6 in which they demanded the "Grand National Party" stop at once all acts of violating freedom of assembly, association, speech and expression and human rights.

The statement accused the GNP of working hard to adopt a law on media despite the people's opposition and criticism.

This goes to prove again that the GNP is a group of dictators who are engaging themselves in high-handed and arbitrary practices, turning aside the demand of the people, it said.

It charged that the GNP, which left no stone unturned to control broadcasting services, is seeking to mislead the public opinion enraged at the traitorous "government" and put media under its control while impudently crying out for "diversity and democratic development of media."

If the evil law on media is passed, the elementary and basic rights of the people will be encroached more severely in south Korea, the statement warned.
