The President put his heart and soul into the reunification of the country, apprehending more than anybody else the misfortunes and sufferings imposed upon the fellow-countrymen by the division of the country.

He convened the historic April Joint Conference of Representatives of Political Parties and Public Organizations in North and South Korea after the liberation of the country to resolutely smash the scheme of the U.S. imperialists and their stooges for "separate election and separate government". After then, he had put forward reasonable proposals to make peaceful environment for the great unity of the nation and the reunification of the country and taken many steps for the purpose in every period and stage of the developing reunification movement.

In the 1970s, he made a breakthrough into the deadlocked north-south dialogue and negotiation and saw to it that the July 4 north-south joint statement with the three principles of national reunification as the main content was published, thus opening up a turning phase for reunification.

In the 1980s he, who had set it forth as the supreme task of the nation to achieve national reunification, laid down the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo to be adhered to consistently by the entire Korean nation.

In the early 1990s when the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean bellicose forces staged the "team spirit" joint military exercises and prattled about the "collective sanctions" against the DPRK, he published the famous work "The 10-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country" so that the whole nation could defend peace of the country and turn out as one in the efforts for achieving its long-cherished desire.

He, with warm compatriotism and boundless magnanimity, led the people of all strata to the sacred cause of national reunification. Saying the greatest gift that he would give to the nation was the reunification of the country, he approved a document on reunification issue and left his autograph in it in the last moments of his great life.

The immortal feats of President Kim Il Sung for the cause of national reunification will shine long century after century.
