C. P. Mainali, general secretary of the C.C., Nepal Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist), was elected chairman of the preparatory committee at the ceremony.

The preparatory committee decided to conduct political and cultural events, including remembrance meeting, seminar on the exploits of the President, book exhibition and film show, and widely introduce through media the glorious revolutionary history and immortal exploits of the President and General Secretary Kim Jong Il and the Korean people's efforts for building a great prosperous and powerful nation in the period from July 10, 2009 to April 15, 2012.

An appeal to the world progressive people was adopted at the ceremony. It stressed that it is duty of the progressive people and organizations in the world striving for independence of humankind to commemorate with splendor the centenary of birth of Kim Il Sung who made immortal contribution to the cause of global independence.

It called upon the prominent personages and progressive organizations in the world, the organizations for the study of the Juche idea and the Songun politics and the organizations for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people in particular, to intensify their activities and jointly commemorate the centenary of birth of Kim Il Sung, the great sun of revolution.
